Bob Delateur
In the words of Bob: “I was born in San Jose, California in 1977. Grew up in a military family, so I traveled a lot. At the age of seven, my father, who was a pilot in the Navy, crashed over the ocean. The death of my father was a life changing event that started me on the path of seeking the meaning of life. At the age of 10 I picked up guitar. Guitar and music where ways of dealing with grief and hardship. I excelled at it, but I was never satisfied. When I was a freshman in high school a friend invited me to a youth group at his church. I was blown away by the evidence of Christ in these high school aged Christians. They genuinely worshiped Christ and loved each other. After hearing the gospel preached from several months and I was asked to respond and everything within me responded with belief in Jesus Christ. Christ filled my life with joy and has ever since. The Christian life is a struggle with the old self, the sinful self, but in the cross of Christ, I find satisfaction, help, encouragement and resolve. Immediately, after my conversion, I served in the local church with my music. By my high school graduation, I felt led to pursue full-time ministry. After several years of interning and then being sent to seminary for further training, I was ordained in my church in 2003. I have been pastoring in various capacities since. I have been married to the love of my life, Jeannie, for ten years and have three children: Emmett, Ellie, and Ephraim.
Modern Dissent was birthed from a desire to communicate the beauty of Christ through music. Joe, Paul and Seth are more than fellow musicians. They are great friends and partners in this ministry. We hope our music will be enjoyable, but at the same time we hope to challenge people to think hard about their life and understand the salvation that is found in Jesus Christ alone.”
